A Stunt Pilot is an aircraft pilot who travels around the country giving exhibits of stunt flying and parachuting. Stunt flying is the performance of aerial feats requiring great skill or daring. Stunt flying in powered aircraft started with the Wright brothers. The most famous early stunt flyer was Lincoln Beachey, who died in 1915. He joined the Curtiss exhibition team in 1911 after having stunted with balloons and dirigibles. Beachey probably flew more air shows in 1911-12 than any other stunt pilot in the United States, and he perfected the art of flying hands-off, i.e. with both arms flung wide as he passed the grandstands at the air shows.
