Fun Military Helicopter Facts

According to WikiPedia amilitary helicopter is a helicopter that is either specifically built or converted for use by military forces. A military helicopter's mission is a function of its design or conversion. The most common use of military helicopters is transport of troops, but transport helicopters can be modified or converted to perform other missions such as combat search and rescue, medical evacuation, airborne command post, or even armed with weapons for attacking ground targets. Military helicopters play an integral part in the sea, land and air operations of modern militaries. Attack helicopters are helicopters used in the anti-tank and close air support roles. The first use of the modern attack helicopters was the Vietnam era AH-1 Cobra, which pioneered the now classic format of pilot and weapons officer seated in tandem in a narrow fuselage, chin mounted guns, and rockets and missiles mounted on stub wings.

Fun Online Army Facts for Kids

You might be familiar with the fact that army soldiers always have stinky socks, but is it more to it than that? Well, according to Odd Stuff Magazine there are many fascinating facts about the Army. 30 of the 43 Presidents served in the Army, 24 during time of war, two earned the rank of 5-star General (President Washington and President Eisenhower) and one earned the Medal of Honor (President Theodore Roosevelt). With 1.1 million soldiers and more than 400k civilians and contracted employees, the US Army would represent the fourth largest city in the USA. If the US Army was a state, it would be the 42nd largest as it owns more than 15 million acres of land across the US. Before the Army was established, colonists were organized into rag-tag militias with no real structure or unified chain of command. But in spring 1775, most wanted to attack the British near Boston but knew they needed more structure to confront the professional soldiers on the other side. That's where the official birth of the Army came in, on June 14, 1775, through a resolution from the Continental Congress. The next day, George Washington was appointed as commander-in-chief of the new Army, and he took command of his troops in Boston on July 3, 1775.
